As Senior Back-End Developer, you will play a key role in the transition of our e-commerce website and systems developed inhouse to the Gomibo platform as a Saas solution. A great challenge, for which your knowledge and experience are indispensable. What your role will look like exactly depends on your interests, skills, and on what you want to develop yourself in.

What do you do as a Senior Back-End Developer?

As a senior developer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Directing the development process from the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) idea where you deliver value quickly and repeatedly.
  • Designing technical projects that meet specific business rules and quality requirements. Think of: speed, scalability, code readability, and maintainability, so that our platform will still function excellently 20 years from now.
  • Identifying improvements in the technical field (possibly through focus groups), or the internal workflow and development cycle.
  • Taking the lead in projects by, among other things, determining MVPs, providing technical advice, and redirecting where necessary. You ask critical questions during reviews, map technical risks (like the impact on certain systems), and monitor backwards compatibility.
  • Providing guidance to colleagues through coaching, code reviewing, and trainings, if this interests you.

Method of working

  • Gomibo maintains a flat organisational structure, which means that there isn’t a layered hierarchy, despite different degrees of work experience. Decisions on topics like architecture are not imposed from the top down, but rather made in dialogue with the team.
  • You will also work closely together with the team’s Product Owner. Your task is to convert functional requirements to a technical implementation that has a direct added value to colleagues, while remaining practically feasible.

Personal development

As a senior, you can go either way in terms of your growth path: technical specialist, generalist, or a combination of both. For example, you could have a more fluid role by being the architect for a system, but you could also take on a functional role where, for example, you have contact with providers or create the tickets for a technical project.

Examples of current projects

In addition to these projects, you can also take the lead in guiding teams that are working on overarching themes such as: APIs, architecture, workflows, or learning & development.

Who are you?

  • A college (HBO) or university (WO) degree in the direction of Computing Science, Software Engineering, Information Science, or a similar direction.
  • Extensive experience in software development, including designing, programming, testing, and debugging complex systems.
  • You have a great sense of responsibility for the components and systems you work on, from concept to delivery. As we value freedom, independence, and creativity, taking ownership is very important.
  • You have experience in project-based work on multidisciplinary IT issues.
  • You are familiar with Agile working methods, such as Scrum. You know how to apply its best facets, but don’t let them guide you entirely.
  • You have good communication skills and can work together well with different types of people and teams. 
  • • Experience with our stack is a bonus, but not a prerequisite.
